“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” – 1 Timothy 6:18
The holidays are about to be in full swing! Who is ready?! Who cannot believe it’s this time of the year again?! We definitely fall into both categories! As busy mommas, we know the feeling of wanting to get our families into the spirit of the season while often not actually feeling like there's enough time to come up with special and meaningful activities to do so. In years past, I have struggled to know HOW to execute even my best laid plans of teaching my children to give, serve and love others extra hard during the holidays. Our church kicks off the month of November with the Be Rich series and last year I got super organized with my GSL Calendar. I honestly felt that my family had the best Christmas yet because we were intentional about focusing on the REAL reason for the season.
Our Grace and James Kids family would like to invite YOU to participate in our second annual GIVE SERVE LOVE challenge throughout the month of December. With this sweet calendar we are hoping to give y’all some fun, easy and beautiful ways to love your families and others over the next few months. Now, these activities are simply suggestions. You can always add your own and even use some ideas from HERE, HERE, and HERE.
At our house, I cut out the daily activities and stick them in the pockets of our Advent Calendar. The girls LOVE coming in each morning to see how we are going to Give, Serve, and Love that day. We read the activity and talk about all that we will do that day. I personally love the first few days as we pull out the Nativity Sets (wooden and soft), read Christmas Stories, and simply begin preparing our hearts to love others the way that God loves us.
Over the next several weeks leading up to December, and as we prepare our hearts for this sweet season, we are going to focus on various aspect of the challenge. This week, we’ll begin with GIVE!You can give in so many different ways. Giving of your time, money, services, and the list goes on. Being able to show your children what it means to give is important too. Each year we go to the store to choose toys, coats, socks, and other items for local families. Another one of our favorite things to do is to create and give special crafts to important people in our lives. Each kiddo lays down and I trace their upper body. They decorate the paper and then we have a precious HUG to send to grandparents and friends. Such quick and easy activities but also important lessons along the way.
It’s always uplifting to come across companies that make great products and also give back to specific communities. Hearne Dry Goods Co. is a brand that makes gorgeous statement jewelry, grabbing inspiration from generations past, and giving a portion of proceeds to a community health clinic in Lwala, Kenya. HDG’s founder, Leigh, is connecting “Louisiana’s past with Lwala’s future”, and we think THIS is what it’s all about! PLUS you can grab one of your favorite styles for 10% off using code GANDJ10.
We hope that you will use the month of November to prepare to Give, Serve, and Love throughout the holiday season. You can find out more about the challenge, including how to participate, by visiting our Challenge page HERE.
Please share the Grace and James Kids Give, Serve, Love Challenge with your friends and be sure to check back each week for more ideas.
