“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” – 1 Timothy 6:18
Welcome to Part 2 of our Give, Serve, Love Campaign. With just a few short weeks and VERY busy days left until December, we want to continue to encourage you to plan and prepare for this time of SERVING others in honor of Jesus’ birthday. If you’re new to the Give, Serve, Love Campaign then please check out our previous posts with details about the challenge, including how you can win a $100 gift card and $100 donation to your favorite charity. You can also read about how we implement the G&JK Advent Calendar and focus on GIVING.
Our church kicks off the month of November with the Be Rich series and last year I got super organized with my GSL Calendar. I honestly felt that my family had the best Christmas yet because we were intentional about focusing on the REAL reason for the season. Today we’ll give some fun ideas to help you SERVE others during this special time.
Ways that we SERVE others:
- Bake cookies and deliver them to friends
- Make bird feeders with pine cones, peanut butter, and bird seed
- Adopt and buy gifts for a Senior from the Y Christmas Tree
- Put together toiletry packages for the homeless
- Volunteer at a soup kitchen, after-school program, or other community program
The girls and I spent a little time one morning baking cookies for some friends. We used the good ole slice and bake cookies to cut down on melt downs over who gets to stir and then lick the spoon. Trust me-we make things EASY so that our hearts can be filled with JOY rather than frustration. (You know what I am talking about here!) I can't lie and say that we didn't eat just about as many as we gifted, but I can say that the Christmas spirit was upon us as we enjoyed the activity together.
The excitement from our friends was enough to make the whole cookie baking experience more than worth it.
Once we arrived to share the treats, we spent a few minutes sharing our reason for SERVING. The girls reminded their friends that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday and then challenged them to think of a way that they could give, serve, and love. I was able to share our calendar with the girls’ Mom and invited their family to participate too. SERVING a family and getting them on board to serve others?! WIN,WIN!
We hope that you will use the month of November to prepare to Give, Serve, and Love throughout the holiday season. You can find out more about the challenge, including how to participate, by visiting our Challenge page HERE.
Please share the Grace and James Kids Give, Serve, Love Challenge with your friends and be sure to check back each week for more ideas.
